For this activity you will need:

  • Craft Paper
  • Paint
  • Marker
  • Scissors


How to make your Butterfly Symmetry Painting

Start by either printing out a butterfly outline on a piece of paper, or draw one yourself!

Carefully fold the paper in half along the butterfly’s body, making sure to have a wing on each side of the fold and in line with each other.

Unfold the paper and have your child paint one side! (It is okay if they happen to paint either side of the fold!) You will want to make sure you apply the paint a little on the thick side for best the result!

After your child is finished painting, quickly fold the paper with the wet paint on the inside. Press the folded sides lightly together.

Carefully unfold the two pieces to reveal your symmetrical painted butterfly!
